This colloquium presents three talks (one pre-recorded) from high school students who were awardees of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics 2021 Summer Research Experience enabled by the Blair Jones Fund.
Each student spent 10 weeks working with a faculty mentor to define a problem of interest to them, determine sources of data, collect and analyze the data. Each then developed a presentation or poster about their results.
- Max Gualtieri presents his work analyzing the acoustic properties of different materials.
- Zelene Desire presents her work examining the differences in the availability of affordable rental housing across ZIP codes in Prince George's County, Maryland.
- Nico McClure presents his work examining the differences in COVID-19 vaccination rates across ZIP codes in Prince George's County, Maryland.
The host is Dr Julia Chifman, of the American University Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
